The Anthem
History behind Our Kingdom Anthem
The Tooro Kingdom anthem was composed in 1945 by the late George Magwara, a veteran of the Second World War and Member of Parliament in Tooro (which year?).
It was first sung on 3rd December 1945 in the presence of Omukama Kamurasi Rukidi III. The anthem is sung during kingdom and cultural functions, but it is also sung in school assemblies.
When His Majesty the King is present, all the four stanzas are sung. When the King is not present, only two stanzas are sung.
The Tooro Anthem is song of praise, devotion and patriotism. Here is a general message contained in this anthem. Our King is the Lion of Tooro. Long live our King. His reign is great. He helps the poor, directs the lost and plans for his people while sited majestically on the throne. Us his people, men and women should love and listen to him so that he reigns in peace.
